Meditations & Prayers

In this section, we offer prayers and meditations that can accompany us throughout the year, that can be done, individually or in groups according to your needs.

ONE WEEK OF PRAYER

Rescue the Pre-born

Sunday

O God of Beginnings, You are the Creator of all life. As we begin this week, be near us as we unite with our Pre-born brothers and sisters who are destined for death. May you, by your Holy Spirit and by the voice of your church, lead your people to rescue these innocent children from certain death and bring those who participate in their death to true repentance that they may taste of your goodness and mercy; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Spiritual Warfare

Monday

Almighty and Powerful God, drive all evil spirits away from the innocent pre-born children and from the killing centres where their destruction is planned. Overcome evil with good in the hearts of those who reject your truth and who believe the lies of the evil one who says that good is evil and evil is good. Rebuke the enemy for the sake of all these innocent children and for your own sake, Oh Lord; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Kingdom Prayer

Tuesday

Oh Great King of Kings, let your kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven for the sanctity of all human life. You have said that your Kingdom is righteousness, and that there is peace and joy in the Holy Ghost. Where there is unrighteousness let righteousness come to bear, where there is hostility, cause your peace to reign supreme. Where there is sorrow, bring joy to the hearts of people. Lead us into your unshakable and everlasting kingdom where you will reign forever and ever. That truly the kingdoms of this world will become the Kingdoms of our God; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

For Forgiveness

Wednesday

Oh God of mercy and grace, as you hung on the hard wooden cross, you asked that those who were putting you to death might be forgiven. Please, Oh Lord, help us to offer that same forgiveness to those who participate in abortion, euthanasia, the destruction of embryonic life and who by other means violate the sanctity of human life, that in all things the world would know the height, the depth, the breadth, and width of your love, your mercy and your grace; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Restoration of the Holiness and Protection of the Womb

Thursday

Oh Holy God, our Rock and our Fortress, you used the womb of Mary as a tabernacle for the dwelling of the Incarnation, where the Holy Son of God was to be nurtured and protected. You created the womb of woman so that the miracle of human life might be nurtured and protected. Many women have been deceived into believing that their womb is not a place of holy protection for a human life, but that it is simply another appendage of their body. Renew and restore your purpose and will concerning the womb of all women throughout the earth, that you may be glorified; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

For Governments

Friday

Oh Ruler of the nations, many of the kings of the earth have set themselves against you; they rebel against your rule. Yet you have set your King on your holy hill of Zion so that in every local, state, provincial and national government you would rule in the midst of your enemies. We pray that you may strengthen and uphold those rulers that, by your grace, are following your ways and purpose. Make your enemies a footstool for your feet, that all people in all nations may kiss your Son, so they may know that happy are those who take refuge in you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, forever and ever. Amen

For an End to Abortion

Saturday

Oh God, who is the Beginning and the End, hear our prayers as we cry out to you to end the merciless shedding of innocent blood in our nation and throughout the world. Through your death you have conquered death and through your life we experience eternal and everlasting life. Cause life to spring forth in the hearts of all people and bring forth a love and respect for life that will dominate our culture.  May your kingdom and church apprehend and overtake the culture of death that has prevailed through deceit and selfishness; may the Seed of the woman crush the head of the serpent through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

WAY OF THE CROSS WITH THE UNBORN

The First Station: Jesus is Condemned to Death

Though innocent, Jesus was condemned by the power of the State. In a like manner, our innocent brothers and sisters have been condemned in the womb. Their rights and dignity are not recognised. In this, they bear a special likeness to Jesus.

The Second Station: Jesus is Made to Bear His Cross

The salvation of the world carried a heavy price for our Lord, the agony of the cross. As He accepted His cross, let us also resolve to endure suffering so that others may live. Let us pay the price by standing up for our preborn brothers and sisters.

The Third Station: Jesus Falls for the First Time

Almighty God was weak because He chose to be like us. He had power and glory from all eternity and yet He chose to be immersed in the world of suffering. We pray that the benefits and advantages we have in life may not cause us to forget our pre-born brothers and sisters.

The Fourth Station: Jesus Meets His Afflicted Mother

There is no deeper relationship than that of mother and child. They belong together. When one suffers, the other suffers. To love and defend one means to love and defend the other. To be pro-life means to serve both the child and the mother. It means we have to ask our society, \"Why can\'t we love them both?\"

The Fifth Station: The Cyrenian Helps Jesus to Carry His Cross

Many watched the Lord suffer. Simon the Cyrenian helped alleviate that suffering. Many lament abortion. Some actually get involved in helping to stop it. We pray that all people may take an active part in the pro-life movement.

The Sixth Station: Veronica Wipes the Face of Jesus

The compassion Veronica shows reflects the compassion of so many medical doctors and nurses, who treat their patients with dignity. We pray for repentance and renewal in the medical profession. May the tools and skills meant for healing nevermore be used to kill.

The Seventh Station: Jesus Falls for the Second Time

In working to defend life, there are many setbacks and obstacles. Yet we know the meaning of the cross. In weakness, power reaches perfection. We do not look to our own strengths and talents alone, but to Christ. His own strength will sustain us.

The Eighth Station: Jesus Speaks to the Women of Jerusalem

Christ told these women to weep for themselves and for their children. He does not ask for false worship, but repentance. He does not want followers who cry out to Him and then ignore injustice and bloodshed. May all who believe in Christ likewise stand up for the defenceless children.

The Ninth Station: Jesus Falls for the Third Time

Despite the falls, nothing can stop our Lord, because His is a mission of love. If the pro-life movement is not a movement of love, it is nothing at all. If it is a movement of love, then nothing will stop it. Love is stronger than death, more powerful than hell.

The Tenth Station: Jesus is Stripped of His Garments

Nobody can stop us from loving our preborn brothers and sisters. Those stronger than ourselves may strip us of popularity, possessions, and even power, but they cannot strip us of love. We love others with the same love that Christ showed for us.

The Eleventh Station: Jesus is Nailed to the Cross

The powers of this world crucified the God who made this world. All power and authority come from God. All who exercise power have to account for it before the throne of God. We pray that those in government may use their powers to protect those innocent babies in the womb.

The Twelfth Station: Jesus Dies on the Cross

Our Lord died. Many of His children died with Him. His passion is re-lived with every abortion. That is one every twenty seconds in our country. We only know a fraction of the horror of this act in the sight of God. We only know a fraction of the horror of Christ\'s crucifixion. May all our brothers and sisters killed by abortion rest in Christ\'s peace and be saved by His cross.

The Thirteenth Station: Jesus is Taken Down from the Cross

Mary experienced the pain of holding her dead Son as many mothers grieve after their abortions. We ask that Mary may comfort them, help them face the truth about abortion, and lead them to forgiveness and healing.

The Fourteenth Station: Jesus is Laid in the Tomb

A tomb is a memorial. It helps us remember the one who can no longer speak. May we and our society remember the babies who cannot speak. May we also remember Our Lord\'s Resurrection, and His promise of eternal life. He has conquered abortion because He has conquered death. May we bring His victory to every part of our world!

MEDITATION ON THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION

Extracts of a meditation by Padre Pio, OFM, Cap.

God, from all eternity planned the greatest of all the masterpieces created by His hands: the Immaculate Virgin Mary. From all eternity Almighty God took delight in what was to be the most perfect work of His hands, and anticipated this wonderful plan with an outpouring of His Grace. A woman brought ruin, and a woman was to bring salvation. The one, being tempted by a serpent, stamped the mark of sin on the human race; the other was to rise through grace, pure and immaculate. She would crush the head of the serpent who was helpless before her and who struggled in vain under her heel; for she was conceived without sin, and through her came grace to mankind.

Protected with Grace by Him Who was to be the Savior of Mankind that had fallen into sin, she escaped all shadow of evil. She sprang from the mind of God as a pure ray of light, and will shine like a morning star over the human race that turns to her. She will be the sure guide who will direct our steps toward the Divine Sun which is Jesus Christ. He makes her radiant with divine splendor and points to her as our model of purity and sanctity. No creature surpasses her, but all creation defers her through the Grace of Him Who made her immaculate. He Whom she was to carry in her womb was the Son of God participating with the Father and the Holy Spirit in the glory of her conception.

Clothed in light from the moment of her conception, she grew in grace and comeliness. After Almighty God, she is the most perfect of creatures; more pure than the angels; God is indeed well pleased in her, since she most resembles Him and is the only worthy repository of His secrets. In the natural order she preceded her Divine Child, Our Lord, but in the divine order Jesus, the Divine Sun, arose before her, and she received from Him all grace, all purity and all beauty. All is darkness compared to the pure light that renews all creation through Him Whom she bore in her womb, as the dew on the rose.

The Immaculate Conception is the first step in our salvation. Through this singular and unique gift Mary received a profusion of Divine Grace, and through her cooperation she became worthy of absorbing infinitely more.

The Three Divine Persons imbue this sublime creature with all her privileges, her favors and her graces, and with all of her holiness. The Eternal Father created her pure and immaculate and is well pleased in her for she is the worthy dwelling of His only Son. Through the generating of His Son in His bosom from all eternity, He forecasts the generation of His Son as Man in the pure womb of this mother, and He clothed her from her conception in the radiant snowy garment of grace and of most perfect sanctity; she participates in His perfection. The Son Who chose her for His Mother poured His wisdom into her that from the very beginning, by infused knowledge, she knew her God. She loved and served Him in the most perfect manner as He never until then had been loved and served on this earth. The Holy Ghost poured His love into her; she was the only creature worthy or capable of receiving this love in unlimited measure because no other had sufficient purity to come so near to God; and being near to Him could know and love Him ever more. She was the only creature capable of containing the stream of love which poured into her from on high. She alone was worthy to return to Him from Whom came that love. This very love prepared her for that \"Fiat\" which delivered the world from the tyranny of the infernal enemy and overshadowed her, the purest of doves making her pregnant with the Son of God.

MEDITATION ON THE MISTERY OF INCARNATION

Preparation: Take time to settle yourself comfortably in a quiet place, with the New Testament story of the Annunciation to hand (Luke 1: 26-38). Place yourself with reverence before God, asking him to direct everything in your day more and more to his praise and service.

Pray: Ask for the grace to know Jesus more fully, and to love him more intensely, in order to be able to follow him more closely.

Read the scripture passage.

The setting: Try to enter into the vision of the Trinity, looking on the world: people despairing, hateful and killing, people sick and dying, the old and the young, the sick and the poor, the happy and the sorrowful, some being born, others being laid to rest. The leap of divine joy, as the time has come for the second person of the Trinity to enter humanity\'s story, becoming man for us.

Meditation: This is the context of the annunciation scene. Try to stay with the eyes of God, and look on the young girl Mary, as she is greeted by Gabriel. Try to remain totally present to the scene, hearing the nuances of the questions, seeing the expression in the face and eyes, watching the gestures and movements which tell us so much about a person.

Notice how God works - so simply and quietly. A world goes on, apparently oblivious to the total revolution which has begun. Notice Mary\'s complete way of responding to her Lord and God.

As you stay immersed in the setting of this mystery of the Incarnation, you may want to stay with Mary, or perhaps with our Lord, who has now become man for you. You may want to listen, or to speak out your joy, thanks, wonder or praise. Respond in whichever way you are moved.

Close the time of prayer with the Our Father.

This meditation is based on the Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius.

MEDITATION ON THE VISITATION

The fetuses of Jesus and John exulted in a dance of love in their holy mothers wombs!

In this beautiful mistery of the Visitation we recognize the extraordinary abilities of a child in gestation, its potential, already clear since its conception, that here finds its most high-definition and proclamation. St. John even before birth had understood the mistery of the Incarnation. What God in Mary\'s womb hides to the Powers of Heaven is first revealed to this unborn child (John), who learns  - bouncing in Elizabeth womb  -the good news that the archangel Gabriel came to bring from the sky...

Meditations before each Hail Mary:

1.The Virgin Mary, now the Mother of God and the real Ark of the Covenant, contemplates what the Angel told Her about Her cousin, Elizabeth, being in the sixth month with child. Instead of relishing in being the Mother of God, She worries that her cousin might need Her help. She asks Joseph to take her to visit her cousin right away.

2. Zachary and Elizabeth, his wife were both elderly. They had never had children and this saddened them greatly. When Zachary took his turn to offer sacrifice in the Holy of Holies of the Temple, an Angel appeared to him, and told him that Elizabeth would bear him a son, and that he should name him, John. He will be filled with the Holy Spirit even from his mother\'s womb. John will have the spirit and power of Elias. Because Zachary did not believe the Angel, Gabriel, he was struck dumb and could not talk.

3.When Mary and Joseph came to their house in Juda, the baby in Elizabeth\'s womb leapt with joy and they were filled with the Holy Spirit. At that moment John was baptized and would be born without original sin. Now the family of Zachary had entered the Kingdom with Jesus, Mary and Joseph.

4. Filled with the Holy Spirit, Elizabeth knew immediately that this was the Mother of God, and shouted out: Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And why would the Mother of my Lord come to me? This was the first recognition that Mary was the Mother of God and that God had become Man. Mary did not deny it, but answered with Her great canticle of love: My soul magnifies the Lord and My spirit rejoices in God my savior...

5. My soul magnifies the Lord. Think about that statement. Mary is prophesying that we will be able to see and understand God more through Her than with our own efforts.

6.In Luke, we then find that Mary stayed with Elizabeth for three more months. That being the case, we can assume that Mary stayed with Elizabeth right up until John was born. Elizabeth was in her sixth month, as the Angel told Mary. Six months and three months are nine months. Now we have a three month pregnant Mary, whowe can imagine taking the newly born John into Her arms and next to the child, Jesus, in Her womb. We need now to contemplate the great union between Christ and John and their later meeting 30 years in the future.

7.Zachary got his speech back just in time to prophesy saying God has visited us and brought redemption to his people. Looking at his son, he said: And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Highest, for you will go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways.

8. When Herod vowed to kill all the first born children of Israel, Elizabeth took her three month old son to the desert and trusted that God would take care of him. John was raised by the animals and taught by Angels until he came out of the desert years later to preach of the coming Kingdom of God.

9. When Joseph came to pick up Mary three months later, he saw that she was pregnant and an Angel of the Lord appeared to him, informing him that the child was conceived by the Holy Spirit and was the awaited Messiah.

10. During these nine months of pregnancy Mary was the Tabernacle of God, in a more perfect way than He is now in all the Tabernacles throughout the world. In Her was Emmanuel (God with us) and the Christ (the redeemer).
